What We Do

Why We Do It
There is no country in the world where women and girls experience total equity and equality. We want to change that.
At the same time, the world is facing unprecedented challenges such as climate change and intensifying polarization. Now, more than ever, we need the innovative ideas and essential perspectives that girls and women can contribute to solving many of today’s most pressing local and global issues.
Girls Gearing Up International Leadership Academy (GGU) aims to address these interconnected challenges by creating a global movement of equipped and inspired future female leaders.
Who We Are
Girls Gearing Up International Leadership Academy was founded by a passionate group of three friends driven by the desire to change how girls and young women are equipped to take up leadership roles in their communities and in their world. Founded in 2015, the team has since grown to a diverse and highly qualified group of international female professionals who contribute as volunteers and freelancers to continually grow and expand the movement.
Our programs are made possible by the power mentors who speak at our yearly Summer Academy, female leaders in our 12-month mentoring program, the Youth Advisory Board made up of GGU alumnae from around the world, and global volunteers who help with day to day operations. All of us are passionate about preparing the girls of today to be our leaders of tomorrow.
